Child Trafficking

29Jul09

Domestic servitude and child trafficking from Haiti is a significant problem within the Dominican Republic. Last spring, I held a screening of The Price of Sugar, a documentary about the trafficking of desperate Haitians into the Dominican Republic for slave labor in the sugar cane fields. This past week there was a major bust of a child trafficking ring. Here is a link to the story. If you ever want to keep up on local Dominican news, there is a great website that reports in English: www.dominicantoday.com.
